Jewelcrafting is the very definition of a hardcore minmaxing profession. If you are in a more serious raiding guild, there’s a high chance of a lot of your guildies being jewelcrafters – and rightfully so. It offers the biggest bonuses of all professions. If you’d like to easily become a jewelcrafter yourself, continue reading our WotLK jewelcrafting guide.
The reason why so many people choose jewelcrafting as one of their professions in WoTLK are the 3 unique Dragon’s Eye gems they can socket in their gear. There are 18 different Dragon’s Eye cuts to choose from. This gives players the flexibility of gemming towards the stat they need the most at a certain point in time (for example, gemming more hit rating so they can reach the cap).
If you gem something like 3x Bright Dragon’s Eye – you’ll get a total of +84 attack power bonus over gemming normal gems. Compare that to the usual +80 attack power bonus of other professions, and you’ll see why minmaxers chose jewelcrafting over everything else.
The money-making aspect of jewelcrafting might not be as strong as in TBC, but you can still have a steady income by selling cuts and epic items on the auction house.
When following this guide, try to be flexible. When leveling jewelcrafting, there are many different options and alternatives. Try to always base your decision on your server’s economy and do the crafts that either have the cheapest mats or sell the best.
You can farm the mats needed for this guide yourself if you have mining, or you can buy them off the auction house. You can also buy the ores and Prospect them instead of buying gems. Try to follow the prices and calculate what will be the most cost-effect. When it comes to leveling jewelcrafting, there, unfortunately, isn’t a one size fits all solution.

Jewelcrafting guide TBC
Master jewelcrafting (300 – 375)
Learn Master jewelcrafting (300 – 375) from one of these trainers:
There are other jewelcrafting trainers in Outland, but these two are the best because they also sell the recipes you need to level up.
- 300 – 320
Craft any of these recipes until you reach 320:
Teardrop Blood Garnet – Blood Garnet
Glowing Shadow Draenite – Shadow Draenite
Brilliant Golden Draenite – Golden Draenite
Inscribed Flame Spessarite – Flame Spessarite
Solid Azure Moonstone – Azure Moonstone
Radiant Deep Peridot – Deep Peridot
All of these recipes start yellow so you might need to make more than 20 crafts. Also, these crafts are listed in order from the easiest ones to sell to the hardest. So keep that in mind when choosing your craft.
The recipes for these gems are sold by the two aforementioned trainers.
You can also do Prismatic Black Diamond – Black Diamond. This recipe goes yellow at 310 and green at 315, but the mats for it can be very cheap.
- 320 – 325
Craft any of these until you reach 325:
Glinting Flame Spessarite – Flame Spessarite
Bright Blood Garnet – Blood Garnet
Sparkling Azure Moonstone – Azure Moonstone
Jagged Deep Peridot – Deep Peridot
When you start crafting them, all of these recipes will be yellow, so you might need to make a bit more than 5 crafts.
The recipes for these gems are sold by the two aforementioned trainers.
- 325 – 335
13x Mercurial Adamantite – 52x Adamantite Powder, 13x Primal Earth (This recipe starts yellow, so you might need to make a bit more than 10.)
You get Adamantite Powder by prospecting Adamantite Ore.
Also, don’t sell these, you will need them later.
- 335 – 340
Craft any of these until you reach 340:
Sovereign Shadow Draenite – Shadow Draenite
Smooth Golden Draenite – Golden Draenite (This recipe starts yellow, so you might need to make a bit more than 5.)
The recipes for these gems are sold by the two aforementioned trainers.
- 340 – 350
13x Heavy Adamantite Ring – 13x Adamantite Bar, 13x Mercurial Adamantite (This recipe goes yellow at 345, so you might need to make a bit more than 10.)
Jewelcrafting guide WotLK
Grand master jewelcrafting (350 – 450)
Horde trainers
Howling Fjord: Carter Tiffens
Borean Tundra: Geba’li
Both factions can also learn it from Timothy Jones at Dalaran.
- 350 – 395
Start cutting:
Bloodstone
Sun Crystal
Chalcedony
Shadow Crystal
Dark Jade
Huge Citrine
You will learn a lot of new recipes, so just cut the ones you have the most gems of, the ones that are easiest to sell, or the ones you are going to use. The choice is yours.
These recipes go yellow at 375, so you will need to do about 55 – 60 cuts to reach the 395 skill level.
- 395 – 400
Make any of these :
7x Sun Rock Ring – 14x Crystallized Earth, 7x Sun Crystal
7x Crystal Chalcedony Amulet – 14x Crystallized Earth, 7x Chalcedony
7x Bloodstone Band – 14x Crystallized Earth, 7x Bloodstone

- 400 – 420
25x Shadowmight Ring – 25x Eternal Earth, 25x Eternal Shadow
25x Stoneguard Band – 50x Eternal Earth
Both these recipes go yellow at 410, so you might need to make a bit more than 20.

Craft any of these until you reach 425:
Dazzling Forest Emerald – Forest Emerald
Pristine Monarch Topaz – Monarch Topaz
Balanced Twilight Opal – Twilight Opal
Sparkling Sky Sapphire – Sky Sapphire
Brilliant Autumn’s Glow – Autumn’s Glow
Bright Scarlet Ruby – Scarlet Ruby
When you start crafting them all of these recipes will be yellow, so you might need to make a bit more than 5.
Base the choice of which gems you will craft on your server’s economy. Craft the ones you’ll sell the easiest, or you will use yourself.
- 425 – 440
Start cutting:
Earthsiege Diamond
Skyflare Diamond
You can buy most of the meta gem recipes from Tiffany Cartier in Dalaran. The rest of them drop in dungeons or are pvp rewards.
Make any meta gem of your choice.
- 440 – 441
1x Icy Prism – Frozen Orb, Chalcedony, Shadow Crystal, Dark Jade
You create the first Icy Prism at 440 because that’s when meta gem recipes become yellow.
If you don’t mind waiting for the 20 hour cooldown, you can continue crafting Icy Prisms till 450. The recipe goes yellow at 445.
- 441 x 450
Continue cutting
Earthsiege Diamond
Skyflare Diamond
(All meta gems recipes will be yellow, so you might need to make a bit more than 9.)
Or
13x Dream Signet – 13x Titanium Bar, 13x Forest Emerald, 13x Dream Shard (This recipe is yellow at 440, so you might need to make a bit more than 9.)
Thank you for reading our WotLK jewelcrafting guide! Don’t forget to visit Timothy Jones every day to do your daily quest. All the dailies are very simple and they award Dalaran Jewelcrafter’s Token. You’ll use those tokens as currency to purchase new recipes from Tiffanny Cartier.
My suggestion is to start by purchasing the recipes for Dragon’s Eye cuts you will use, as well as the Dragon’s Eyes themselves. Then buy the recipes for the normal cuts you will use, and the recipes for epic items. When you have everything you need to gear your characters, you can start buying the cuts that you think will make you the most money.Another great source of Dalaran Jewelcrafter’s Token is to find Damaged Necklaces, combine them with Chalcedony and bring them to Timothy Jones. This is a repeatable quest. Necklaces are a random world drop and as such can be found on the auction house.
