WotLK Blacksmithing Guide: 1 – 450 (WoW Classic Leveling)

WoTLK

So if you created a big bad-ass plate-wielding character and are wondering what professions to learn – blacksmithing is an excellent choice! Not only will you be able to create some insanely good gear for yourself, but also have a nice source of income. You will be able to craft more than decent pre-raid gear. In the later phases of the expansion (Ulduar, ToC, ICC), you will be able to learn new powerful recipes and sell those as well. Furthermore, you will be able to craft very sought consumables like Titanium Weapon Chain and Eternal Belt Buckle. Our WotLK blacksmithing guide will help you reach max skill level in no time.

One of the biggest advantages of blacksmithing is that it covers a wide variety of gear. Regardless if you are playing a tank, a DPS, or a healer – you will find something for yourself. Another perk that blacksmiths have is that they can add an additional socket to their gloves and bracers: Socket Bracer, Socket Gloves. If you put 2 epic gems in those sockets, you will get a stat bonus of +40 strength, +60 stamina, +46 spell power, or any other combination of stats/gems you put there.

If you have mining, you can farm all the total mats needed yourself. But don’t sweat if you don’t, you should be able to find them on the auction house easily.

Blacksmithing guide WoW Classic

Start by learning blacksmithing from one of these trainers:

Horde trainers

Alliance trainers

Apprentice blacksmithing (1 – 75)

Don’t sell these. You’ll use them in further recipes.

Don’t forget to train Journeyman blacksmithing (75 – 150) once you reach skill level 50.

Journeyman blacksmithing (75 – 150)

This recipe starts at yellow, so you might need to make a bit more than 12. This recipe goes green at 87, that’s why we stop there. However, if you have a lot of Coarse Stone you can continue doing it till 90.

Also, don’t sell these. You’ll use them in further recipes.

Don’t forget to train Expert Blacksmithing (150 – 225) once you reach skill level 125.

This recipe starts at yellow and goes green at 137, so it’s hard to say how many of them you are going to need to make. Still, Heavy Grinding Stone is by far the best thing to create, especially considering you will be needing them further down the line.

Expert blacksmithing (150 – 225)

Don’t forget to train Artisan Blacksmithing (225 – 300) once you reach skill level 200.

Also, don’t sell these. You’ll use them in further recipes.

Artisan blacksmithing (225 – 300)

You’ll learn this from Plans: Mithril Scale Bracers, a limited supply recipe that Alliance players can buy from Harggan in the Hinterlands, and Horde players from Gharash in Swamp of Sorrows. If you don’t want to wait for the limited supply recipe, you can always check the auction house for it.

The Mithril Spurs option is a lot cheaper, but Plans: Mithril Spurs is a random world drop. Try looking for it on the auction house and buy it if it isn’t too expensive.

Plans: Thorium Bracers is also a random world drop. It’s strongly suggested you buy it from the auction house. It’s usually not too expensive.

Plans: Imperial Plate Bracers is the reward for finishing the quest Imperial Plate Bracer given by Derotain Mudsipper in Gadgetzan, Tanaris. To complete the quest, you need to give him 10 Thorium Bars.

You learn both of these from random world drops. I suggest investing in the one that has cheaper materials – calculate the price of 8x Rugged Leather vs 1x Star Ruby

Alternatively, between 440 – 450 you can start creating some epic items – to try and sell them on the auction house or to gear your characters. I’ll list them here in no particular order, base your decision on your server’s economy and your needs. Since this is your personal decision, the mats for these items won’t be included in the total mats needed list.

Thank you for reading our WotLK blacksmithing guide! You are now ready to create some good gear for yourself and make money along the way. With every raid tier in WotLK you will have access to new blacksmithing patterns that will always keep your gear up to date. And those items will be sought after every plate class in the game as well, which means you should be able to sell crafts easily.
